“Batch size 1” with quality guarantee thanks to rule-based CAD automation
Geiss, the vacuum forming equipment specialist based in Upper Franconia, has been relying on ACATEC since 2005. The machinery manufacturer has been able to speed up order fulfilment for its series equipment in “batch sizes of 1” by between 5 and 20 times. They use the speedmaxx configurator end-to-end from engineering and purchasing to production and commissioning.
Henning Bitter, ACATEC’s Managing Director, explains, “Geiss staff have created a configurator for highly complex thermoforming machines themselves using our authoring system. We provided training and several days of consulting. The result is truly impressive.”
Klaus-Peter Welsch, Sales and IT Director at Geiss, adds, “We very rarely require assistance from ACATEC – we do everything ourselves. The result is that data are created automatically for all work processes parametrically. For example, the cutting robot receives the information it needs for a particular layout from speedmaxx.”

For a company that only supplies customised products, the focus at Geiss is quite naturally on the customer. But they also save time and hassle internally in their production operations. “3D visualisation is very helpful in the production process. It makes life easier for our technicians and machine operators – they only need to measure once instead of three times,” says Klaus-Peter Welsch.
