Door manufacturer Teckentrup works with SAP’s variant configurator and integrated CAD automation from ACATEC

Anyone taking an interest in Teckentrup does not realise at first sight just how complex its products are – but

its printed price list comprises 500 pages.

This large medium-sized company was founded in 1932 and is today one of the largest European door manufacturers with production plants in Verl-Sürenheide (HQ) and Großzöberitz. Its 11 branch offices in Germany as well as numerous representatives and partners throughout Europe and around the globe ensure that customers benefit from the company’s proximity and the flexibility of its specialists. From idea to innovation, from draft design to implementation – everything takes place "under one roof". The entire product range is produced in Teckentrup’s factories and supplied from a single source.

SAP and CAD

The door specialists use the SAP variant configurator (SAP LO VC) to configure their products. The system contains all the object dependencies for all the products and their variants. When an order is placed, speedmaxx uses information exported from SAP for CAD automation. All the product data required for order fulfilment for the variant are generated in batch mode. These include CAD parts, assemblies, drawings and bills of material. Autodesk Inventor is the CAD system used.

The interesting thing is that everything happens without any manual interaction – all the data are generated and made available completely automatically.

The benefits for Teckentrup, driven by quality goals, include faster processes, zero defects and flexibility – the wide range of variants can be measured in increments of a millimetre. Over the years, Teckentrup has twice been through the process of selecting a tool for CAD automation. Once when they introduced it and once when they extended it. On both occasions they chose ACATEC – owing to the “maturity” of the software compared with other systems.

Teckentrup uses the following speedmaxx Enterprise product modules:

Use, generate and make master data, bills of material and documents available in a rule-based process

Create individual parts, assemblies and drawings of product variants in a rule-based process

Execute PDM functions based on rules and make product data available to business processes

Exercise time-delayed, rule-based control over IT systems, generate and make data available

Use rule bases from SAP LO VC, MS Excel, databases or mindmaps

Model object dependencies, interfaces and user interfaces graphically yourself
